But, in many ways it doesn't. I'm more than that too. I have developed some new interests in the last year & a half - furniture re-do, healthy eating. And there's the stuff I've always loved - gardening, simple living, houses (Have I ever mentioned that I'm pretty obsessed with what the inside of houses look like?)
Anyway, I was unsure about the name Stairstep Boys from the very beginning. But, it was the best I could come up with at the time. If I had it to do over again I'd probably choose a different name for my blog.
Which leads to this question. Should I change my name? I have a couple names I'm considering...I'll share them in a minute. But, of course, I'm having this internal debate about my motives.
Do I want to change my name because I feel it would better describe me and what my blog is about?
OR
Do I want to change my name because I think I could increase my readership? (I often think people might not visit me because they don't think they'd have anything in common with me).
AND
Why do I want more readers? Because I'd love to get to know more people or because I take some kind of validation each time I get a new 'follower'...or for that matter feel a little hurt each time I lose a 'follower'?
AND

Does it really matter why I want to change my name? Do I analyze things too much? Am I taking myself too seriously?
AND
Will I lose some of my readers if they come looking for Stairstep Boys and see a different name?
Ok. Well. I'm asking you. Here are the options I'm considering. Would you tell me which you like best?
1. Learning Contentment
2. Pursuing Contentment
3. Keep my current name....Stairstep Boys
or
4. Is there some other name you can think of that you think would better describe me and my blog?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
1. It does not matter what any of us think it is your blog about you, your family, what ever you choose it to be about.
ReplyDelete2. It is just a name is a rose not a rose by any other name?
3.I originally came to your blog because of the name because I was in the same situation.
4. I stayed for more than that :)
5. yes you are over analyzing this
6. I have been a follower for a few months and I do see you are more than a mom of stair step children. In fact you hardly write about your kids. You have a lot of home entries, finding self entries, balancing life and finding your place.
7. I will still follow you no matter what the name
8. I do understand and wish you the best of luck
9. New name vote: Karen's confusion. Because then you can write for the both of us:)
Hmmm. I think what should determine whether or not you change the name is whether or not you want to. If you want to change it, do it!
ReplyDeleteI like "Learning Contentment" over "Pursuing Contentment". The second one suggests that one day you'll just reach it and I think it's a life-long quest that requires life-long learning. Just my thoughts.
I'll continue to follow you whatever you're called not because of your name but because you're such a dear:-).
I am voting for Stairstep boys.
ReplyDeleteI think you are great- love your name and never really thought you were only about little boys.
I am big with stick with your name unless your blog has a long title.
Then I can see changing it.
I like the things you write and I always see you get a decent amount of comments.
I think you have a great steady audience.
Have a great weekend!
My vote is to stay with "Stairstep Boys"! I love it! Perhaps that is why I first visited you, because my first three are stairstep boys here in my home. However, the more I read about you, the more YOU came through and I wanted to follow all of you. As Mrs. H.C. commented, you write about other things more than your boys!! The "contentment" title thoughts don't seem to encompass what your stated about your new interests in furniture, healthy eating, gardening, etc. Whatever, you choose, I'll still follow you . . . cause I like YOU!
ReplyDeleteI like your name. I will follow you no matter what you decide.
ReplyDeleteI like "stairstep boys" the best! It's so cute....you can change it if you ever have a girl : )
ReplyDeleteI second everything Mrs. Huse Clifton said, particularly points three and four:
ReplyDelete3.I originally came to your blog because of the name because I was in the same situation.
4. I stayed for more than that :)
I used to have another blog and decided it wasn't fitting what I wanted to write about, so I changed it. Now THAT blog doesn't seem to fit. Names are sure hard. Just keep in mind that you are always growing and changing and the title may work for little but maybe not always. And for the record, I LOVE stairstep boys whether you're writing about them or not.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like your name. I'll still follow you if you change it but I think it suits the blog. :)
