Calm?

I've been reading a lot lately (on blogs, in books, in magazines) about creating a home environment that is calm, peaceful, and a place of refuge for the family.  Oh, how my soul resonates with that idea.

Yes!  I too long for calm and peace and for quiet.

But, here's my question...

How do I create that kind of home environment when I have four boys under the age of 8?

 I really want to know.

So I'll pose the question to you dear readers.  I'll take any thoughts you've got, funny or serious.

  2. LOL... well I guess its going to have to be your family's definition of calm. Just like the term "my organized chaos."... Your normal...

But im really curious to know what that will be with 4 boys! Ha!

  3. I have no idea! I have one boy and our house is filled with constant energy. Lots of laughter and fun though. I'm sure 4 would be quite a handful!

  4. I'm resigned to the fact that my house will not exude "calm" until my kids are grown. And then, I'll probably wish it didn't.

For me, calm means that the clutter that's around isn't MY clutter (laundry, dishes, mail, cookbooks, etc). If my kids' stuff is out, fine. But, if it's my mess- I need to clean it up. Once my stuff is away, I feel better. But, that's just me:-).

  5. Is it realistic to make boys, calm, and quiet, synonymous? Peace is a heart issue, beginning with parents! Enjoy those boys, in about 18 years it will be over---then they begin to bring their own boys home--woohoo!!

  6. I just saw this post...first I just recently read the history behind the rug you are showing...Keep Calm and Carry On...very interesting.

And from this mom who had four under age 7...one being a very high-spirited girl...it is more in your perspective than anything. When they get older they will tell tales and you will think your house was a jungle...even when it was not...they love to tell very TALL tales...you should set around the table of my 20plus year olds.

So the calm is in your heart and spirit..even if they are running through the house chasing each other with nerf guns...you can set back and smile...remember they will be gone before you blink.
