Checking In

I'm still here.  I thought I'd let you know a little of what I've been up to lately...

1.  I'm doing a women's Bible Study at my church.  It's a Beth Moore study on the book of James.  Did you know that the book of James was written not by the disciple James, but by James the brother of Jesus?  I didn't.

2.  My husband and I are still taking the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace course at church.  We've come away from the meetings inspired.  But, we still need to sit down and really re-evaluate our budget.  We are already debt free (with the exception of our mortgage), but now we need to buckle down and get more intentional about our spending and saving.

3.  I've been wanting to type out my testimony for a long time.  I've put it off because I want to be sure I'm following the Spirit's leading in what I write.  I've been mulling through some things in my brain and plan to add a tab at the top devoted to my testimony.  I'm not sure exactly when I'll have that completed, but keep your eyes peeled.

4.  A post I've been wanting to write for awhile too is about how I've lost the 30 pounds that I lost.  But, right now, my weight loss has kinda stalled & I've 'fallen off the wagon' a bit.  I've been more or less maintaining right now.  I am thinking though, that if I write that post it can refresh me and get me back on track.

5.  I haven't been commenting on other folks posts very much.  But, I do still visit your blogs!  I hope you are all doing well!

    1. Hi Janette! We've really been enjoying the Dave Ramsey course. It's actually kinda a refresher for us. Years ago we were part of a small group that watched the videos in our leader's home. Technically, we didn't take the course that time, but we really liked that format. It was easy for us to share individual stories, struggles, & questions.

This time, it's the formal setting - large group at church. We actually paid for the course this time. :) And, it's been great to review the info, but I have to say I really loved the way we did it the first time around.

Thanks for your kudos to my weight loss. It's actually been stalled for about 2 months now. I got derailed a bit over the holidays and haven't gotten back. But, all we can all keep doing is to keep trying and not give up!

Do you have the testimony you wrote out posted somewhere on your blog? I'll have to check it out if you do.

      Blessings!

  2. Hi! We are doing Dave Ramsey Financial Peace now too. Not the class, but the steps! Love the freedom that a budget brings...sounds strange, but true!
Maintaining weight is just as hard. Hang in there!
I love Beth Moore. Several of her studies have really touched me but I haven't done one in a while!
    Great catching up!

    1. Hey Jen! Thanks for swingin by! I agree that a budget helps and is actually pretty freeing. We used to follow one years ago when we were first introduced to Dave Ramsey. But, we've gotten away from it. We are financially in a better place than we were then, so I know it's even more important now for us to be intentional in how we spend our money. Otherwise, it just turns to smoke!

I think this is only the second time I've done a Beth Moore Bible Studay and I saw her speak via simulcast last year. I always start out a little annoyed by her, but WOW once she gets rolling you can see her HEART so clearly. And, she definitely loves the Lord and loves His Word.

I really like the study we're doing now because she brings in aspects of the literal translations from Greek or Hebrew. And, that's fascinating to me because it adds a whole other dimension to scripture that I've read many times before.

  3. I loved this post! I haven't done a Beth Moore Study and think I should check it out. I've heard great things about her and would like to see what it's about.

Great job on losing 30 pounds! That's fantastic and inspiring. I look forward to reading about your journey. :)

  4. Testimony...

I have to do one for Sunday School. And I've been stalling for forever.

And I will totally have to type it out.

And then I am trying to decide if I should put it on my blog.

Also...how did you do tabs on your blog main page?

    1. Denise, about the tabs, it's something I've wanted to do for a while but I thought it would be too complicated. Turns out it's not complicated at all!

You use Blogger right? If you go to 'Design', you'll see a list of options on the left..."Overview, Posts, Comments" etc. "Pages" is the 3rd option down.

And, you simply create a new page and that becomes a tab. I think you can change where the tabs appear, but the way it's set up in the standard design is the way it appears on my blog...as tabs at the top. Easy peasy!

  5. I've hardly been on the internet and missed your blog! I just wanted to say I just started reading the Total Money Makeover and love it! We also have no debt, but I want that mortgage paid off!! It's fun to see when others do the same things the same time as you!
