Winning Truffles!

This year for the extended family Christmas event on my husband's side, one his aunt's threw down the gauntlet.  Each year all the cousins (and there are a lot of them!) are the ones who bring the desserts.  She challenged us this year to bring the most attractive, delicious desserts we could think of.  There was to be a contest!

Just to give you an idea of how many people come to this Christmas meal, John's dad was one of 14 brothers and sisters.  That's a lot of aunts and uncles.  And, as I said, a ton of cousins!  And, a lot of the cousins have families of their own, so that means many, many second cousins running around.  Lots of hungry people.

I chose a recipe that Kerri at The Pleasures of My Life posted last week for Oreo Truffles.  Take my word for it.  They are really decadent, really yummy, and best of all...super easy to make!

And, they won 3rd place at our Christmas Dessert challenge.  Thanks Kerri!

  1. Yay! 3rd place! Way to go Karen! I'm glad they turned out for you! I love the idea of having a dessert contest! I just talked to someone the other day and they said their family always has a craft "challenge" that they have to complete before they get together on Christmas. I guess that's the benefit of having a big family. Me, I guess I'll just have to start a craft/baking club with friends!

  2. Oh my. Those look amazing. I've been meaning to tell you how much I love your family picture. Merry Christmas, Karen!

  3. First of fun!! What a wonderful heritage and blessing...I would love to have a family like that to enjoy!!!
These look wonderful...I feel 10 pounds added to my bottom just looking at them!!!
I might have to try them anyway!!
    Merry Christmas....enjoy your family!!!

  4. I have those on my list this year. I will be making them Thursday. Can't wait to try them.

  5. My aunt makes those for her catering business and they are by far her tastiest treat! They are soooo easy to make too.
I thought my (mom's side)extended family was big (16 aunts and uncles and 54 cousins + their families). But I'm sure that beats us. That's awesome!!

  6. WOW!! I had really longed to make one of kerri's truffles and it was the oreo one that I wanted to start with ... I'm so glad to hear you say they were easy, I've been scared to try it ;-)
Congrats on your 3rd place win, Karen, but I have to say that photo looks like 1st place to me - YUM!!

  7. Yum, yum, yum! Congrats on 3rd place. (But what in the world could have beaten it?)

    Hope all is well!
